The ladies like to party, apparently

19.06.2009, 19:47

Many "ladies only" hotel deals cross my desk; I've written about spa outings and "desperate housewives" getaways. Now comes the obviously named "girls just want to have fun" package from the Four Seasons Hotel in Chicago, where "The Martini Man" will bring his cart of libations to your room and mix a cocktail (one of four) for you and your girlfriends.

Chocolate, apple, cosmopolitan and classic martinis are on the menu. Perhaps this is why this isn't a "boys just want to bust loose" party; it's all about the frou-frou drinks!

I'm curious, though, if anyone but gal pals take advantage of these packages for facials and bubble baths or martinis. Do men get slighted, or are they just not into male-bonding weekends like we are? If anyone has taken advantage of one of these themed packages, drop me a line. I'm curious if they are as fun as they sound in a press release.

Four Seasons Hotel in Chicago info: To book the package, call 312-280-8400. Rates begin at $355 per night for a deluxe king; a deluxe Family & Friends Suite for six runs $1285 a night. The package is available now through Dec. 31.

Paying a bit more in Palm Beach: If it seemed you shelled out more during your latest stay in Palm Beach County, Fla., you're not alone. The average daily room rate for February hit $216, the county's highest ever. While the county has long had the highest rates in the state, the jump in price is partly due to increased taxes and partly to there being fewer rooms on the market, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel explains. Some hotels remain shut down from hurricanes Bonnie and Jeanne, so fewer rooms comprise the total average. An increase in discounted flights to Palm Beach International Airport also can account for an influx of travelers. Whatever the cause, be prepared to open your wallet wider than before.

Aloha to an Oprah enterprise? Oprah Winfrey is looking to get into the B&B biz in Hawaii, according to various media accounts. The megastar's property in Kula received preliminary approval from the Maui County Council, granting O.W. Ranch LLC a five-year conditional permit to operate a 12-bedroom vacation rental in Kula. No official word from OW on O.W. has been released. Kula is on the western slopes of Haleakala, with views of Maui's central plain. If nothing else pans out, at least the area has gotten a blitz of free publicity, as the Pacific Business News points out.

What can a nickel buy? At Loews' Jefferson hotel in Washington, the newly retooled bison nickel can get you upgraded to a suite on Friday or Saturday nights from June 3 to Sept. 5. Call for availability: 800-235-6397. The hotel's Jefferson Lounge is getting in the spirit also with 5-cent martinis on weekdays between 5 p.m. and 5:55 p.m. So head to the bank and get your roll of nickels … Just make sure they're the new "old" ones.
